Council Update Chief Montour gave opening comments at the Annual General Meeting Six Nations Hosts 4th Annual General Meeting 09/21/11 – About 60 community members attended the 4th Annual General Meeting held on Sept. 21 at the Community Hall where financial information from the 2010 – 2011 fiscal year was shared. Moderator Richard Powless welcomed everyone in attendance, gave a brief overview of the meeting agenda and introduced Chief Montour who provided opening comments. He welcomed all before speaking about a significant change in this year’s annual report. As required by the federal department of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development, Six Nations Elected Council followed the required format of the Public Sector Accounting Board (PSAB). Under this system, the value of tangible assets is recognized in the audit report. Representatives from auditing firm KPMG made a presentation to explain the audit. They also pointed out that Six Nations employee efforts on PSAB surpassed those in most municipalities. After the auditor presentation concluded, Six Nations Council Administrative Department directors presented a brief power point presentation outlining department services and their revenues under the new PSAB format. Questions then followed from those in attendance. In answer to a question about high speed broadband internet access, Economic Development director Matt Jamieson reported that this project is under way and, when completed, will serve the entire Territory of Six Nations. As the meeting drew to an end, Chief Montour gave some closing remarks that included concerns about economic challenges that might face Six Nations.
