Community Planning Office - Community Planner's Desk
Six Nations Community Planner,
Amy Lickers, began the task of
creating the Six Nations
Comprehensive Community Plan
(CCP) on February 5, 2007. As
a Six Nations community member,
the plan is an initiative that
is close to her heart. The
Comprehensive Community Plan is
a 20 year plan that analyzes the
needs of the community and sets
out a strategy for obtaining those
goals. The CCP is currently being
reformatted to be more accessible
and easy to understand. The Final
Draft will hopefully be available
for community review in the spring,
prior to final publishing.

The Community Planning Office has been having a great time, trying to raise public awareness about issues and concerns about the community. The Community Planning Summer Assistants were out at a number of public events like Solidarity Day, Try Hugs Not Drugs and the Fall Fair, asking community members what they would like to see in their community. The Speakers Corner was a popular event, where community members were filmed talking about things they wanted to see, or things that they liked about Six Nations. The Youth Contests were a way to engage the youth in the planning process, allowing the youth to put forth their concerns and encourage them to envision the future they wanted to see. Realistically, the youth of today will be seeing the final stages of the current 20 year plan, and will be responsible for the 20 years after that.

Look forward to more Community Events like Workshops, Information Gatherings and a summertime event currently called The Happy Project, which will ask Six Nations Community members highlight their favorite things about the community, whether it be through photography, song, dance, painting, sewing, essay, story, which ever media suits you best.
