Six Nations Community Members Join Rally in Ottawa
01/24/12 – Thirty-two people from a six year old to elders braved the cold darkness to take a coach bus to Ottawa on January 24, 2012. Leaving at 4 a.m., they travelled six hours to attend the first and historic First Nations and Crown Gathering.

Some of the Six Nations community members carried signs bearing messages: “It won’t take forever if we stick together”, “Peace Friendship Respect”, “We will never give up defending the land”, “Stop interfering with our internal affairs! Period”, “New generation New leaders New Changes”, “Justice for Native Rights” and “Honour your word Respect our choice”.

The First Nations – Crown Gathering gave community members the opportunity to stand with others to insist that treaties are respected and acted upon. First Nations insisted on a Nation to Nation relationship with the Canadian government.

For Six Nations, the perpetual care and maintenance of the people was one of the foremost issues. Chief William Montour regularly speaks about unpaid land leases and lost and stolen trust funds that would have covered all the needs of Six Nations in perpetuity.
