New Directions Broadcasts A Day of Hope
|
|
11/14/11 – The radio waves were filled with loads of information about “living the good life” and enjoying an addictions free lifestyle. At the board in the CKRZ studio, several members of Council’s New Direction department presented an interactive radio show from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Nov. 14.
The department took a novel approach to raise hope and awareness for the National Aboriginal Addictions Awareness Week. It began on Monday with a free pancake breakfast at the Community Hall.
With assistance from CKRZ 100.3 FM personnel and from Six Nations Council’s Communications Department, the New Directions eight-hour show called “A Day of Hope” filled the local air waves.
Their radio show featured a variety of skits, performances, and songs aimed at living a substance free lifestyle. In-studio guests also shared heart riveting stories about their battles with addictions from their darkest hours to now living a good, clean substance-free life.
Throughout the show, New Directions staff invited listeners to phone in, share their stories and announce they are living a substance free life. As the show came to an end, the list of people declaring their addiction free lifestyle added up to about 135 individuals.
