of the 2009 National Fire Prevention and Protection Poster Competition
Six Nations Honours Poster Winners
06/02/09 – The best way to stop a fire before it starts is through spreading the word of fire prevention. At the General Council meeting of June 2, 2009, the Six Nations Fire Department recognized six elementary school students for spreading that message with their posters.

The students who made award winning fire prevention posters received monetary awards ranging from $200 - $300 and certificates for their work signed by Fire Chief Seth and Sparky.



Presented with awards were: Shauntay Longboat – OM Smith School, Seneca Hill – OM Smith School, Cassandra Bomberry – OM Smith School, Dylan Miller – OM Smith School, Dallas Silversmith – IL Thomas School, (Absent: Connor Martin – OM Smith School)

Fire Chief Seth announced that two poster winners will head to the Ontario Regional Finals.

Six Nations Honours Athletic Achievements
06/02/09 – Also at the General Council Meeting of June 2, 2009 Six Nations Parks and Recreation announced the Recognition of Athletic Achievement Program winners for May 1st 2008 to April 30th 2009. They were individuals and/or teams from the community recognized for earning prestigious levels of athletic excellence.

Award recipients were nominated on the criteria of:
  • participating within their sport for 3 or more years
  • Achieved excellence at a prestige level such as
  • won Gold or Silver at a regional, provincial or national level
  • Most Valuable Player at a regional national or provincial level
  • Selected to try out for a provincial or national team
  • Attained the highest level of certification (e.g. Black Belt in Karate)
Honourees include:
Jayme Sky (Softball Player – Spartanburg Methodist College), Tawnie J. Johnson (Six Nations Field Lacrosse Player), Sid Smith (Field Lacrosse Player – Syracuse University), Arliss Skye (Aka:we Canoe Club)
