Proposed plans for a Youth Center were explained in the Six Nations Community Hall
General Council Meeting Focuses on Youth Issues
08/09/11 – The first order of business at the August 9 General Council meeting was a discussion on youth issues. To accommodate more people, Council decided to host the meeting at the Community Hall. Pastor Ralph Garlow gave the opening prayer.

A member of the Youth Ad Hoc Committee, Councillor Bob Johnson made some opening comments. He referred to a number of District Youth Meetings that were held over a few weeks.

Parks and Recreation Director Cheryl Henhawk gave a power point presentation about a proposed facility for both Youth and Elders. The proposed plan also suggested office space for employees who offer Health and Social Services programs for the youth.

When the power point presentation was finished, the floor was open for questions and comments from community members. Several items in need of further discussion were raised.

Chief William Montour said there are further underlying problems and raised the suggestion of building a healing lodge. Six Nations Youth are in need of a facility to access care for any type of traumatic situation be it of a family, social, or individual nature.

Chief Montour pointed out that this is a community problem and urged community members to volunteer their skills to help build a healing lodge for youth who are in dire straits.
