Department - Housing Various Programs have been set up to finance loans for new construction and renovation. Funding for the Housing programs are derived from loan repayments. Members can also access loans from outside lenders with Council providing a guarantee. A Sanitation Program provides financial assistance for the installation of a water source and sanitation facilities. The Special Provision Program provides interest free loans to seniors and the disabled for repairs or new construction if required, to enable them to live in a safe environment and a non-repayable grant for items such as a ramp. The Fire Grant Program also provides a non-repayable grant to assist in securing an alternate place of accommodation to those members who have lost their place of residence due to a fire. Housing also acts as an agent for Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation to deliver the Residential Rehabilitation Assistance Program to the community. The department is responsible for the management of 259 Band owned residential rental properties, including their maintenance. Housing's Inspectors also provide inspections and construction advisory services to the community free of charge.
