IT Department - About Our Servers
|
|
|
|
|
|
Server computers provide the security of the
network.
Domain controllers provide users with a login
name and a hidden password. Only the user knows
their password.
After a user logs into the system they are given
electronic keys we call CIDS. These “keys” will
“open” only folders that the user has been
granted rights to use. This includes email.
Our servers are IBM rack mounted systems that operate using Windows 2003 Server.
All departments have a folder on this server. Each Departments folder contains the information produced by each member of the department. Each department folder is private and only accessed by the members of that department.
This Windows 2003 Server software is C2
Certified, this means that the NSA recognizes it as
secure enough to protect important data.
The servers allow us to maintain a database that
lists the devices and users who are authorized to
use network resources.
Servers also secure and hold mission critical applications such as ACC PAC, LASERFICHE and PROGENY.
Like all computer equipment servers have a useful life of about 3 to 5 years.
Server replacement needs to be a planned process to avoid performance issues.
Servers are mission critical systems that can cause organization wide work disruption if not properly maintained.
