Department - Information Technology
Milestones:
In 1995 Fiber Optic lines were
installed by Bell Canada. These lines
originally connected all Council
buildings to the Administration
Building.

In 1996 the fiber network was setup
with Novell Network Software and
Xyntax was implemented. This was to
consolidate accounting processes.

In 1999 David George was hired and
the Novell server was replaced by
Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 due to the
reduction of Novell in the market
place and lack of personnel trained
in Novell.

That same year PCDocs was setup
for the Records Department.

This system allows us to search by key work all past BCRs and meeting minutes.

In 2000 the network hardware was upgraded from 10MB to 100MB and all systems were migrated to IBM. In 2000 high speed Internet access was first installed. In 2001 ACC PAC was first setup to replace the obsolete accounting system Xyntax. In 2002 the Main Server was migrated to Windows 2003 Server. In 2002 upgraded the network type from Class C/ 254 possible connections to Class B/ 65,000 possible connections. In 2003 Email was moved to the Exchange Email system that was setup to provide Email services to all departments of Council. We are now one of the most technically advanced First Nations in Canada.

IT Department Future Outlook
The work performed in this department is very specialized. Extensive knowledge and experience is
required by each person in this department to perform their daily duties. All calls for service
are noted but we reserve the right to prioritize the call based upon severity of the problem. We
look forward to the New Year and are excited about advancing our system once again. We have
plans to meet with other First Nations IT Departments such as to gather thoughts and exchange
ideas. Our goal is to provide “Quick and efficient support to all departments of Council
while delivering the best solutions that technology can offer”.
