Housing Inspections Program
The Six Nations Housing Department developed this service for the use of all community members (at no charge). These inspections can be conducted for new house construction, repairs, additions, or to inspect an existing house prior to its purchase.

If the house is being funded through Six Nations Housing, compliance inspections are mandatory. The construction process must conform to the requirements of the National Building Code, Part (9) - latest edition. The construction must also comply with Six Nations Housing requirements and its definition of complete.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
For Houses financed through Six
Nations Housing

Detailed house plans must be
reviewed by the Housing Inspector. If
minor changes are required to
conform to the code, they will
be noted for attention. If major
changes are required, the plans
will be returned to the applicant,
as it is his/her responsibility to
have an architect make the
appropriate changes, prior to
resubmitting the plans. The
construction will not commence until the plans are approved. Once they are approved the plans cannot be altered in any way. In other words, ALL CONSTRUCTION MUST CONFORM TO THE BUILDING PLANS.

A minimum of 11 (eleven) inspections will be conducted throughout the construction process in the following stages: Site footing, foundation, framing, siding, plumbing heating, insulation/vapour barrier, drywall exterior landings and final. Once an inspection is complete, approved payments are made through Six Nations Housing.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
If any infractions are noted by the Housing Inspector, it will be the homeowner's responsibility to ensure they are corrected by the contractor.

If a band member requires an inspection for a house that is not financed through the Housing Department, they are required to call and request an inspection.

A date and time will be given for the inspection and the homeowner is required to be present for the inspection.

(There is no charge for Housing Inspections)
