Lands and Resources - Litigation Support Unit The Litigation Support Unit provides on going support in the areas of: •  Reviewing and approving for submissions all land claims and Trust Fund accounting as researched and prepared by the Six Nations Lands and Resources Litigation Support Unit. •  Participation in the negotiation of any settlements which may result from land claims submissions. •  Negotiating the resolution of land issues under the 1986 Federal/Provincial/First Nations Indian Lands Agreement addressing outstanding compensation owed Six Nations in surrendered areas or where the Province of Ontario inadvertently obtained an unintended interest. •  Participation and delegating representation to all negotiations and/or discussions which are formally mandated by the Ontario Tripartite Process as administered through the Indian Commission of Ontario, which facilitates negotiations among the three Governments within the Process (First Nations, Canada and Ontario) which lead to self-government initiatives. The Litigation Support Unit also assists in the investigation of four main points for breach by the crown and bases claims on the following criteria: •  Were the terms of the October 25, 1784 Haldimand Proclamation and other treaties fulfilled and honoured? •  Was the alienation of portions of the Six Nations' tract undertaken lawfully? •  Were the terms and conditions of the alienations fulfilled? •  Were the financial assets derived from the land alienations properly accounted for and maximized to benefit the Six Nations of the Grand River Indians?
