Provincial Minister of Health Visits Six Nations
|
|
04/15/09 –Minister of Health David Caplan toured Six Nations Territory today receiving a first hand view of current living conditions including a detailed overview of health issues that are affecting the Six Nations community. A scheduled stop over at the Six Nations Whitepines Wellness Centre to observe the Satellite Dialysis Unit impressed the Minister who was informed that the Dialysis Unit is in progress with projected opening summer 2009.
The Minister also attended a formal presentation by Six Nations Ambulance Services. The presentation outlined current Six Nations Ambulance Services funding, services, and training needs. Today’s tour and presentations have secured a future commitment from the Minister to promptly advance into partnership with Six Nations to service the health needs of the Six Nations Community.
Health Services Director Ruby Miller comments on Minister Caplan's visit, "We are very hopeful with the Minister's commitment today in the meeting with the Chief and Council to support enhancing as quickly as possible the level of Ambulance Services offered in our community."
Miller also comments, "The Minister also gave his assurance that the Dialysis Clinic will proceed to completion and start servicing our community by the end of this summer."
Miller closes by saying, "On behalf of Health Services, the Chief and Council along with the Ambulance Community Support Group deserve a lot of credit for bringing attention directly to the Minister about the current state of Ambulance Services available to Six Nations and getting the commitment from the Minister to make the needed changes of what is currently provided." However Miller cautions, "We have a lot of work yet to complete and we will continue until the Health needs of Six Nations are completely satisfied."
