Moment 4 Life – Concert put spotlight on suicide prevention

09/10/11 – Music filled the air in the White Pines Wellness Centre parking lot on Sept. 10, 2011. The event was the brainchild of four youths who do not want to see any more young people take their lives.
So they decided to use music as a way to attract an audience. Rayne Burning, Caytlen Burning, Skylar Montour and Ryan Renn came up with a name for their concert: Moment 4 Life. The same name online will take people to the group’s Facebook page.
The concert was held on the World Suicide Prevention Day. Rocking the parking lot were Jace Martin, Blue Diamond, Rebecca Miller, Breaking Wind and Retro Fit Blues as well as new talent. Musicians donated their time and talent. One wrote and performed a song specifically for this concert.
Interactive features filled the event complete with a Speakers Corners, Music Lessons, and Information booths. It gave people an opportunity to express opinions about the impact of suicide and to share feelings about suicide in general.
Mental Health Services Worker Barb General who supported and gave guidance to the four youth’s on their journey comments,“I was impressed with the youth’s confidence and moved by their intentions and work. I want to thank all the in kind and monetary contributions made by everyone who made this day a huge success”.
