A New Sports Field, A New Future for Six Nations

07/04/09 – A cleared stretch of land that sits adjacent to the Six Nations Community Hall, the site of what now will become a new sports field capable of hosting Field Lacrosse or other outdoor sports thanks to a joint Federal and Provincial $684,000 investment.
“This project stimulates the economy, and encourages physical health and well being all at the same time. Its worth celebrating,” said MP Phil McColeman.
MPP Dave Levac also commented, “This investment will support Six Nations residents in building a healthier community, and at the same time allow our economies to remain strong.”
The funding announcement is part of the Recreational Infrastructure Canada Program and Recreation Ontario, designed as part economic stimulus. More importantly this investment encourages higher levels of participation in physical activity and community building.
“On behalf of Six Nations of the Grand River we would like to thank Mr. Dave Levac and Mr. Phil McColeman, our members of the Ontario Legislature and Federal Government, for this contribution,” said Chief Montour. “It is much appreciated for allowing our vision to be realized. Recreation is the center point in creating a sustainable, healthy, happy community.”
The Six Nations Sports Field project is one of 758 projects across Ontario worth a total joint federal and provincial investment of more than $380 million. Projects were selected on the basis of merit and construction readiness.
