Six Nations Holds Annual Santa Claus Parade
|
|
11/19/10 – An Annual tradition now in its 19th year, the Six Nations Santa Claus Parade brought out many families, youths and elders alike, to see colorful floats and to score a few candies and treats tossed into the crowd.
This year’s parade traveled its customary route from Chiefswood Road to 4th Line and eventually on to the Community Hall. A variety of floats based on the Beary Merry Christmas theme were enjoyed by everyone lining the parade route.
As the floats passed by, anticipation grew as those gathered were waiting for the parade’s main attraction. Eventually Jolly Old Santa Claus himself came by to pay a visit. He waved to everyone and reminded them that the big day is fast approaching being Christmas.
After the parade, many people gathered at the Community Hall to enjoy breakfast with Santa and a craft bazaar.
A difficult reality arises at this time a year for some families who might not have the means to purchase warm clothing that can help prevent illness. Earlier this month, the Six Nations Social Services Department put out a call for gently used winter coats. After the parade, the free coat giveaway was available at the Community Hall.
The cold and harshness of winter and the free winter coat drive is a reminder to everyone: it’s time to take care of each other.
