Dr. Shawn Christopher Shea gave a presentation about hope at community meeting
Clinical Expert Gives Presentation to Six Nations
01/24/11 – An expert in the fields of suicide prevention and resilience, Dr. Shawn Christopher Shea offered some insights on coping with traumatic situations. He was the keynote speaker at a community meeting organized by the Six Nations Social Services Department.

While not directly speaking about suicide, Dr. Shea spoke about a variety of paradox viewpoints that he called “puzzle pieces”. Those pieces can include finding true happiness,; experiencing anger, hurt and bitterness; and how to deal with these emotions at the subconscious level.

Dr. Shea gave examples including the efforts of Julian of Norwich who, centuries ago, philosophized about the very same issues. Drawing on situations he worked on and interactions with people, he spoke about the path to hope. People who were impacted by traumatic situations can find ways to move forward, he stated.

Prior to his presentation, Dr. Shea met with frontline employees of the Social Services Clinical Services Unit to offer information on dealing with suicide issues in the Six Nations community.

Dr. Shea is an Ivy League Clinical Expert in the fields of suicide prevention, resiliency, clinical interviewing, and improving medication adherence.
