Celebrating A Day of National Aboriginal Solidarity
|
|
06/21/11 – Each year June 21st Six Nations of the Grand River celebrates what is becoming now known as a 2nd Bread and Cheese Day. A day to get together with family and friends to visit with one another over some food, music and fun; that day is Solidarity Day.
"Solidarity Day" is a day for all First Nations country-wide to stand and celebrate and show pride as one. Six Nations Elected Council organized a Community Potluck with a concert bill full of Six Nations performers, featuring rock, country, metal and even bluegrass. Grand River Enterprises donated a Midway complete with free Candy Apples and Caramel Corn for everyone.
"National Aboriginal Day" was declared by the Governor General of Canada, on June 13, 1996, as this is the 15th Year anniversary celebration on Six Nations of the Grand River.
Crowd estimates for this years Celebrations numbered in the thousands.
