Christmas Baskets are prepared and ready for families to enjoy over this Holiday Season
Christmas 2010: A Time For Family and Reflection
12/22/10 – This Holiday Season families and friends from all across Six Nations of the Grand River will gather together on Christmas morning to open presents. Later in the day, many families will enjoy one another’s company over a traditional holiday meal.

During this time of year, it is important to reflect on the reality that Christmas morning can be sad for those with no presents and no festive meal for their families.

Every year, the Six Nations Welfare Department seeks to address these issues by spreading good cheer and food for the season.

Through the department’s annual program, more than 620 Christmas Baskets will be distributed to those in need. This includes people with low and fixed incomes, Employment Insurance (EI) recipients, seniors and singles. Programs such as these help bring cheer and hope to the holiday season.

Also in the weeks leading up to this year’s annual Christmas Baskets Campaign, the Six Nations Welfare Department also put together a toy drive now known affectionately as the Toy Store for low income families during the Holiday Season. This year, the annual Toy Store handed out over 800 toys for boys and girls up to age 17.

For more then thirty-years Six Nations Council/Welfare Department staff and volunteers have come together to help organize the Annual Christmas Baskets program. The need for donations ranging from non-perishables to toys for children grows every year. Six Nations Welfare Department would like to thank each and everyone who has volunteered or donated to this program this year and throughout the many years.
