Youth Round Table Re-Convenes

11/29/10 – Concern and grief over incidents of suicide, in particular youth suicides,is gripping Six Nations of the Grand River Territory. A call for action in the summer led to two community meetings on this issue. On Nov. 29, talks continued at the Youth Round Table that reconvened in the White Pines Wellness Centre boardroom.
Six Nations Elected Council, through the Health Promotions and Nutrition Services program of the Health Services Department, initiated Youth Round Table talks in August.
This recent meeting’s agenda included a new draft terms of reference and plans for youth events plus a discussion with youths about their needs and wants.
Representatives from Social Services, the Youth Lodge, the Duke of Edinburgh group and Six Nations Police Service worked together on meeting priorities.
Future round table discussions will be scheduled to work on the goal of creating a Six Nations Youth Commission.
