Welfare - Family Support Program
|
|
|
|
|
|
 This program is mandatory for
all sole support parents and
blended families with children
from previous relationships.
The overall purpose of this
program is to PURSUE
CHILD/SPOUSAL
SUPPORT.
The Ontario Works Act states:
"... participants must
make reasonable efforts to
obtain all available income.
For example: child and or spousal support to which any member of the benefit unit may be entitled."
As a custodial parent in receipt of Welfare, it is mandatory to pursue any support money entitlements.
The Family Law Act states: "Every parent has an obligation to provide support for his or her unmarried child who is a minor or is enrolled in a full time program of education, to the extent the parent is able to do so."
In summary, an absent parent that is working has a legal obligation to pay support for their children.
