“KIN-CARE” CHILDREN FINANCIAL SUPPORTS

WHAT IS KIN CARE?

Kin Care is when relatives or close friends take care of children when their
parents are unable to do so. Kin Care subsidy is a mandated Child Protection
matter and is usually supported financially by Ogwadeni:deo Services, or Child
Protection Services located off-reserve. Another financial support option
available through these services is Customary Care.

However, the Kin-out of care or Family Placements do not provide consistent
support, so other resources are sometimes necessary.
