COMMUNITY WATER CONNECTIONS

For Immediate Release October 23rd 2026.

OHSWEKEN, ON – In 2021, the Six Nations of the Grand River 58th Elected Council (SNGREC) introduced a Water Connection Strategy for community members living on-reserve. This strategy would ensure that people had access to water and felt secure knowing their water quality and quantity needs were met. This led to the initiation of the first phase of funding to support water service connections for families with children under 18 years of age, living in the home 50% of the time. The same criteria apply, original wells and cisterns will be decommissioned, and the homes must have existing interior plumbing infrastructure.

During the Six Nations of the Grand River 59th Elected Council’s General Council meeting on March 24, 2026, the SNGREC approved a second phase of water service connection support, totalling two million dollars. One million dollars was approved for new water service connections for families with children under 18 years of age, living in the home 50% of the time. One million dollars was also approved for new water service connections specifically for seniors. These new connections will be supported through this second phase until the funds are exhausted. Phase 1 holdovers are automatically included in Phase 2 – no new application is required.
