May 15th, 2025 – OHSWEKEN, ON – Six Nations of the Grand River is updating its Waste Management By-law to address the importation of bulk excess soil that may contain contaminants, liquid and solid waste, invasive species, and/or pathogens.
The importation of waste affects us all. While we await the implementation of the updated Waste Management By-law, the “Interim Voluntary Compliance Protocol on Bulk Excess Soil Import & Dumping” is in place to protect:
- Our Environment (streams, wetlands, ecosystems, fish, and wildlife)

- Our Health (soil pathogens, food we grow, and water we drink)

Community members concerned about trucking or dumping unknown materials on the territory are encouraged to contact the Spills Action Centre 1-800-268-6060 to report any concerns.
What to Report:
- Trucking company name
- License plate number
- Blue tag/address where dumping is occurring
Any community members planning to import, move, or transport excess soil are required to contact the Environment office at least 30 days in advance for a copy of the “Interim Voluntary Compliance Protocol on Bulk Excess Soil Import & Dumping”.
