For Immediate Release: May 29th, 2026
OHSWEKEN, ON – The Six Nations of the Grand River 59th Elected Council would like to notify the community that it will begin a process to consider phasing out and repealing the Six Nations Cannabis Control Law.
The Six Nations Cannabis Law and Regulations were originally put in place in 2021 to guide and regulate cannabis-related business operations on the Six Nations of the Grand River Territory. After careful consideration, the Six Nations of the Grand River 59th Elected Council has expressed interest in discontinuing this regulatory role.
The decision to commence this process is informed by ongoing challenges and resources required to maintain the current regulatory system. Our focus remains on supporting the long-term well-being of the Six Nations community.
As part of this process, Six Nations of the Grand River Elected Council will:
- Share clear and timely updates with the community
- Provide an opportunity to give feedback regarding this proposed course of action.
Community members are invited to share feedback until Tuesday June 30, 2026, at 4:00 PM.
- Written feedback can be dropped off at the Central Administration building, 1695 Chiefswood Road, Ohsweken OR;
- Via email to SNGR.CommunityComments@sixnations.ca.
Further details will be shared through official communication channels, including sixnations.ca, the SNGR app and social media.
