COMMUNITY NOTICE: SNGREC UPDATE ON CANNABIS

For Immediate Release: December 10th, 2025 OHSWEKEN, ON – Six Nations of the Grand River 59th Elected Council (SNGREC) is providing an update on its review of the cannabis regime in Six Nations.

SNGREC has been actively working to address cannabis-related issues in Six Nations, including the community concerns we have heard regarding cannabis production facilities. This process is complex and has required time and resources to properly review and address. SNGREC has held several meetings with law enforcement, the Six Nations Cannabis Commission, community members, and licensees to hear concerns and discuss options moving forward.

SNGREC has also formed a core team of key individuals mandated to actively work on cannabis-related issues, including members of SNGREC and legal counsel. The team reports regularly to SNGREC.

Recently, SNGREC passed certain amendments to the Cannabis Law and Regulations. They are now available to the public at www.sixnations.ca/general-information-notices/. SNGREC continues to work with the Six Nations Cannabis Commission to implement these changes to the Law and Regulations and to ensure licensees are compliant.

SNGREC is exploring the steps to undertake a referendum on the matter of Cannabis. Further details will follow in the new year.
